On the sunny afternoon of 3 May, Vingis spent the afternoon in Simonas Daukantas Square, enjoying the uplifting mood of the approaching centenary Lithuanian Song Festival.

The installation "Gardens" by artist Ray Bartkus was lit in the square. The installation reflects the Lithuanian thatched gardens, part of UNESCO cultural heritage, which are also a symbol of this year's Lithuanian Song Festival. Straw gardens symbolise harmony and tradition and, according to ethnographers, protect the home from misfortune and bring good luck. "Can we find a more fitting symbol that invites people to join together in celebrating the vitality of culture?", said artist R. Bartkus in his welcome speech.

The President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, who was present at the opening of the installation, shared, "The centenary celebration should be an extraordinarily grand, beautiful and exciting spectacle. Travelling around Lithuania and meeting Lithuanian communities abroad, I know that people are waiting, preparing, rehearsing, and for them it will probably be the event of a lifetime."

The people of Vingis are looking forward to the Song Celebration from 29 June to 6 July, and especially to the dance day "Bridges of Ages" on 5 July.

See you at the Song Festival!
