On April 26 of this year, the seventh edition of the national folk dance group and ensemble competition-festival “Klumpakojis” began at the Klaipėda Fishermen's Palace, bringing together more than 800 dancers from across Lithuania.
Our ensemble “Vingis” also prepared a performance and took part in the competition, presenting a Lithuanian folk song arranged by our own member Miglė Žurauskaitė, titled “Pavasaris pavandenis”, and performing two dances: “Ei, kieno kieno žalias kiemelis” (choreography by Rimutė Zaleckaitė, Lithuanian folk song arranged by ElectroMush, orchestration by Martynas Vilpišauskas), and “Pinsim sesės vainikus” (choreography by Birutė Navickaitė, music by Leonas Povilaitis).
We are proud to announce that Vingis did not return empty-handed. The ensemble won awards for Best Performance by a Dance Department Graduate Group and Best Musical and Vocal Competition Piece, and claimed 1st place in the academic youth category for song and dance groups.
We would like to sincerely thank Klaipėda Fishermen’s Palace, the Dance Department of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and VšĮ Edukateka for the wonderfully organized competition-festival. It was an honor to be invited and take part in fostering traditions and love for folk art.
We also cannot forget our beloved Vingis leaders, who prepared us for this competition — our deepest gratitude, respect, and affection go to them!
